I told Brian we had to "go" somewhere for his anniversary gift, and Lindsey was going to have to drive us there since she knew Lubbock better than I. There was so much going on that Friday, so we had to make it a very quick trip (Linds and I had scoped out the location beforehand to make sure everything would work okay). He was eyes-closed the whole way and since we were in Lubbock, had no idea where we were going. When we got there, Lindsey got him out of the car, still eyes-closed, and let him to the front of the store while I went in to set everything up. As soon as he walked in, he could tell by the Starbucks smell, the sound of the music, and hearing escalators that we were in Barnes & Nobles. B&N has always been a special location for us- as it is where we have studied for many tests, and more importantly where we first met on a semi-date in College Station! Lindsey took him up the stairs and led him to the Children's section, where I had cleared a space and put a bench in front of their huge wall mural of trees and children and swings. On the platform there was also several Daddy books set up for him to see, and a giftbag. Brian opened his eyes and was VERY confused as to what was going on! I told him to look in the bag, and as he did he found a picture printed out of an embryo and I had written "This is what we think Baby Kendall looks like!" and the pregnancy test was in there, too. He was FLOORED. I was expecting maybe some emotional reaction, but he literally was in SHOCK! "WAIT, I'm GOING TO BE A DADDY? YOU'RE GOING TO BE A MOMMY?!" and then "When can we tell our families?!" haha! He was so flabbergasted and literally had to LAY DOWN on the bench he was sitting on for a moment so as not to pass out! We hugged and then went and bought his ACTUAL anniversary gift (a leather Bible!) and a simple toy we have always wanted our baby to have- the Sleep Sheep!
It was such a special time and I absolutely loved the way it turned out- it was very "us" and he was SO surprised! The hard part though, was that my whole family and grandparents were in town for Lindsey's graduation, but we weren't going to tell them until that night so we had to keep it secret again!
And of course, we were still in Lubbock for the whole ordeal. :) Good thing I was born & raised West Texan so at least there's a special place in my heart for it! :) Of course now there is a special place in both our hearts for it!
