Telling the Family about YOU, Baby!

I found out about Baby on Monday, and told Daddy about Baby on Friday after lunch. Friday afternoon was Lindsey's pinning for nursing school at Texas Tech- so we attended that. Afterwards we went to Rosa's for a quick dinner then headed back to Mom and Dad's hotel, the Overton, to have some neat cookies for dessert.

Lindsey and her boyfriend, James, went downstairs and brought up these gift bags (red with black polka-dotted tissue paper, Texas Tech's colors) to the room. She began to hand them out to everyone in the family- Dad, Mom, Tristan, Mommie & Papa (my grandparents), and also Brian and I so there would be no suspicion. :) Obviously mine and Brian's bags were empty and we were just opening them for show, haha! Lindsey went on and on about how this was just a little something for everyone thanking them for everything during her journey through nursing school, it really was no big deal, etc. Then she said we should all open it at the same time, and to go ahead...

So here is where the video ensues, but I will try to point out what is happening, haha! Mom had a positive pregnancy test in her bag and a Texas A&M tiny onesie that Brian and I bought earlier this spring for "someday." Dad was SUPPOSED to have a picture of what the embryo looked like, but ended up getting a I heart Daddy picture frame, haha! (Brian and James had packed the bags that afternoon and some communication was crossed over obviously! The frame was supposed to be for Brian :)) Mommie and Papa had one bag that had a Pregnancy Journal that my friend Brandy had given me as a gift for "someday" :) as well as my new prescription for Prenatal vitamins. Tristan's bag had the printout of my discharge papers from the ER and I had highlighted my name and the "Now that you're pregnant..." portions of the paper. Brian and I (and Lindsey and James) had thought that immediately upon opening the gift everyone would know what was going on, but no one really understood! Mom just stood there holding the onesie going "What???" and Mommie and Papa were very quiet, not understanding why Lindsey would give them a pregnancy journal! and Daddy only saw the picture frame so he was totally totally confused. It was finally Tristan, once she opened the papers and saw the highlighted part... that everything finally came into play! She SCREAMED at the top of her lungs and everything started going fast! Dad STILL didn't get it and at the time we thought I was about 7 weeks pregnant (remember that things were crazy, go back and view that post for more info :)), so Lindsey finally looked him in the eye and said, "Brittany's SEVEN WEEKS PREGNANT." and Dad literally fell back on the bed in total shock! Brian was in the corner video'ing most of this, and then James took over so Brian could be in the middle of it. We laugh though because everyone was coming up to me and hugging me and crying, and Brian was left over on the side for a minute by himself haha! Here's the video that we got of that evening :)

The rest of the evening we just spent talking about how and when and why and how and all the excitement of the night! At first I called the baby "Fetus" because I didn't want to get too attached, so Tristan did the same for me, but Mommie just refused and said "No, this is a baby!" That night Papa also leaned over to Mommie and said, "I'm okay being a bachelor in January" so we are still hoping that we will get a Mommie "nanny" for a while once the baby is born, just made us laugh the way he said it! Dad also kept saying, "Are you okay??" which made me laugh too!

That night for a few different reasons we just decided to tell Brian's family over the phone, even though we wish so badly we could have told them in person, too!! Brian and I called each of them and asked three questions! "#1. Are you alone? #2. Can you keep a secret? #3. Are you ready to be an uncle/aunt/grandparents??" From there we just left things within that tiny circle of people because we really wanted it to be special for whoever else we told and I had a fun idea for an email (since we of course have friends and family ALL over the States!) to send them.

It was so much fun to tell the family about you, Baby! We can't wait until you're here and we can introduce you to all of them!
